Winter Skin Care Tips: Layer Your Products
moisturizer that has the quality to sooth and soften your skin, often described as emollients in many beauty magazines. Here is what you need to know and look for in your products in order to defeat winter skin conditions such as dull, dry and itchy winter skin. The proper moisturizing and hydrating regime will plump up your skin, give you a healthy glow, make your skin more supple and will protect it against the elements and toxins by creating a barrier between your skin and your environment. Winter Skin Guide: Face and Body Care Therefore the question is not about using a moisturizer but finding one that is suitable for your needs. And regardless of your decision to use a lightweight moisturizer or something with more oomphs, you'll want to look for these ingredients as they'll help lock in moisture. Aloe helps to calm and soothe your skin while stimulating circulation, helping it to get rid of toxins. And ingredients like glycerin and vitamin E help lock in moisture. I also like Jojoba oil because its very hydrating but won't clog your pores even in oily skin. Layer Your Skin I highly recommend you use a skincare serum to complement your daily moisturizer. A serum penetrates deeper into your skin and therefore hydrates the lower layer of your skin, plumping it, minimizing wrinkles and giving it new radiance. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, omega-3 fatty acids are great for moisturizing the skin and amino acids help build proteins for a youthful complexion. Moisturizing For The Body I always warn my clients of long hot showers during the winter as it is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Hot water is not hydrating but in fact breaks down the naturally occurring oils of your skin, leaving it exposed and open to damage. Dermatologist recommend that the best way to seal in moisture is by blotting the skin and while its still damp use a a body balm. Look for ingredients that are humectants in your body balm. They help draw water onto your skin's surface and into the lower layers. Exfoliating: Face and Body Exfoliation helps speed cell turn over and will give you radiant skin, eliminating dull, dry and flaky skin. I recommend exfoliating once to three times a week but never more than that as you'll likely breakdown your skin's natural oily barrier. Exfoliation for the face or body will help simultaneously stimulate circulation and your moisturizer will sink in more readily. You don't have to accept a dull complexion or ashy legs but by following the above tips can win the battle against dry, winter-weary skin. And as always, I look forward to seeing you at the salon where you will be dazzled by how great your skin looks.
