Holiday Foods & Your Skin
However, there are also many common holiday-friendly foods that are great for your skin and overall health, and balancing them with your favorite pie can leave your skin glowing long after the holidays are over. Take care to consume some of these favorite foods below. Skin Holiday-Friendly Foods With Thanksgiving just around the corner and other festivities pending in the near future, it is important to enjoy delicious foods and to prepare yourself mentally for the possible temptation coming your way. You want to enjoy yourself but minimize as many unhealthy food choices as possible. The key is to enjoy yourself without the risk of feeling guilty that you over indulged in food and sweets. Minimize your sugar intake. This can be in the form of pies and other deserts. Sugar not only attaches itself to your waistline but also causes cellular inflammation and damage. This results in lost elasticity for your skin and makes it more vulnerable to premature aging. Enjoy vitamin-rich mashed sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes can help your skin stay clear, smooth and young-looking. This holiday treat is full of the powerful antioxidant, beta-carotene, that converts to vitamin A, producing new skin cells and shedding old ones. Avoid the whip cream in you pie and opt for a smaller slice minus the crust, and make it a pumpkin pie. This is also a good source of beta-carotene and is lower in fat and calories. Turkey is the traditional Thanksgiving main course and is a perfect source of protein, providing the structural material for your cells, in order to effect cellular repair. Turkey is also rich in cancer-protective selenium, is low in calories and high in protein. For my Thanksgiving dinner I choose an organic turkey in order to avoid antibiotics and hormones. As appetizers I will serve a variety of nuts, seeds, fresh fruit, berries and serve baked chips and guacamole. This will provide a load of antioxidants, proteins and essential fatty acids. All building blocks for perfect, glowing skin. I will also prepare dark leafy vegetables (such as spinach and kale, lightly cooked), squash, cranberry relish and asparagus. The whole point is to balance the good with the bad and in the end feel good about how you treated yourself and your body. The holidays are meant to be enjoyed, so enjoy them with some healthy food choices. In the end you will love yourself and your skin will reflect a healthy glow. And as always, I look forward to seeing you at the salon where we can tweak your skin care routine and give you the skin you always wanted. Call NOW for your appointments at 212.949.2350.
