How To Keep Your Skin From Drying Out On The Plane
celebrity esthetician (and founder of the eponymous skincare line) Joanna Vargas, who knows firsthand how tough flying can be on the face. Travelers generally get dehydrated, she says, If youre going for a longer flight, rehydrating with a product midflight is entirely appropriate. I have clients who will even do a hydrating mask midflight so they look fresh faced when they land! Dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi agrees: The stress of travel can wreak havoc on skin by increasing breakouts and reducing its radiant nature. On top of that, the recycled air on a flight is very drying. To combat dehydration, Dr. Tanzi recommends moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid and plenty of water. Its good to drink an extra glass of water before boarding, she advises, And immediately before and during the flight, apply the hydrating serum or cream with hyaluronic acid to help retain moisturemy favorites are Hydrating B5 Gel from SkinCeuticals or Hyalogy Essence Serum. After the flight, use a creamy cleanser and washcloth to gently exfoliate debris, then apply another coat of the moisturizer. With all that spare time in the air, Vargas also encourages clients to do a pamper session. You can take my Rejuvenating Serum on board, she says, Using it midflight will rehydrate the skin, and the jojoba oil in it will ensure that your pores wont be clogged once you arrive at your destination. I also have clients pack rosewater toner in a spray bottle. Rosewater is incredibly hydrating, so if you spray it directly on your face, it gets moisture into the skin immediately. If youre traveling overseas, I recommend doing it twice, and your skin will be refreshed when you get off the airplane. As for the rest of your travel kit? I love the ILA rose spray and the Eminence Organics rose water spray, Vargas told us, I take the Eminence Organics Strawberry Mask for hydration or the Wei Hydrating Sheet Mask.
