How to De-puff The Eye Area

How to De-puff The Eye Area - Joanna Vargas

Let’s talk about how to de-puff the area around your eyes!

Anyone who’s woken up after a night of restless sleep or dragged themselves out of bed wondering why they had the last stiff drink--or three-- knows how much of a beating the eye area takes. It has the thinnest skin on the body and does not contain any oil glands, so it’s no wonder that puffiness, dark circles, and crow’s feet are an issue for many women. In fact, your eyes are one of the first places on your face to show visible signs of aging, starting as soon as your early twenties.

The puffiness around your eyes is due, in part, to inflammation. When you drink too much-- either in the long term or over the course of just one night or eat too many sugary foods, your body becomes inflamed, and that inflammation shows up right under and around your eyes. Lack of sleep and a diet too high in salt are also major culprits behind puffiness, because our bodies retain water if we’re not getting enough rest or are eating too much sodium. While a bad case of raccoon eyes is often due to genetics, dark circles also show up when we don't sleep enough.

Here are our tips on how to de-puff your eye area.

  1. Lymphatic Drainage - this is key to de-puffing. There are two ways to do it - through manual massage or with our  Magic Glow Wand’s massage settings. The Magic Glow Wand is the most efficient way - simply turn on the wand to the COOL + MASSAGE setting and sweep the wand outwards under and over your eyes for the 3 minute setting.

For the manual massage. Go under your eyes, massaging in the “J” pattern along your eye orbit, from the side of your nose to just below the outer corners of your eyes. End at the place where your cheekbones meet the sides of your eyes. If you’ve got puffy eyes, especially in the morning, this will dramatically improve under eye bags.

  1. For puffy eyes, try cooled chamomile tea bags for ten minutes to de-puff, cool and refresh the under eye area quickly! Simply pop on your lids and relax while they do their trick.

  1. Revitalizing Eye Cream is our go-to solution to address all my eye concerns - puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. Keep it in your bag to touch up throughout the day, as it doesn’t crease! You should use eye cream in the morning and at night, after serum and before moisturizer. Using your fourth finger, the weakest digit so you wont press too hard, pat cream lightly onto your eye area, working from the inside out. Resist the urge to rub it in; this part of your face is just too delicate for that. Don’t forget the corners of your eyes either.
