Combating Dry Skin During Cold Months

Combating Dry Skin During Cold Months

With one of our salons in the heart of New York City, we spend a lot of time on the East Coast. Which means our skin is a bit sad any time from November to mid March. Because let’s face it...it can be bitter cold.

If you’re in the same boat as us, you’re probably dreaming of hot sunny days and naturally glowing skin. Fortunately, until then we have some tips + tricks to combat your dry skin during winter.

How To Treat Dry Skin:

For starters, are you exfoliating too much? Exfoliating more than 1-2 times a week can really dry out your skin. If needed, try cutting down to only 1 time during the winter season, to keep your hydration levels up.

Be sure to moisturize your face every morning and evening! Seriously. You may even need an extra pick-me-up midday, and that’s fine. We love using our Rejuvenating Serum and Rescue Serum during these colder months. These oil-based moisturizers are super lightweight and hydrating and help boost skin whenever it’s feeling a bit dull.

Taking very hot showers could also be the cause of your dry skin. Try alternating temperatures and be sure to apply a soothing body lotion after showering, especially if you're showering at night before bed.

Pay attention to what you are fueling your body with. Joanna’s top tip is to eat avocado in a green smoothie every day to help keep the skin hydrated from the inside out. Avocado has omega 3 fatty acids to keep the skin’s lipid layer moist and plump. Greens are great for dry skin too because they are oxygenating and bring life into the skin.

If you're on the East Coast or planning on visiting, why not treat yourself and your skin to a hydrating, skin glowing treatment. Our Triple Crown Facial is Joanna’s most popular facial that deeply hydrates and lifts skin instantly using microcurrent and organic oxygen therapy. We also have luxurious body treatments that help sweep off dead skin and rejuvenate dull & dry winter skin. Click here to learn more.

For a quick skin boost try masking! Our sheet masks are packed with fast-acting ingredients and feel so hydrating on the skin. Plus all you need is 15-20 min for an instant relief to your dry woes. A  DIY mask is also the perfect way to stay glowing and self-care at home, on a budget.. The yogurt in this hydrating mask is an anti-inflammatory, and avocado has lots of B vitamins and fatty acids, so it’s essential to keep the skin hydrated, even in dry winter weather. The honey also hydrates, and will really transform the skin!

¼ cup yogurt
¼ avocado
2 tablespoons honey

Mix all ingredients together. Apply on clean skin, let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse.
