You Are What You Eat And Your Skin Reflects It

For those of us living and working in New York City we have the opportunity to eat some of the most delicious foods on the planet. We can choose from an exotic variety of foods and from different ethnicities. This can lead us into temptations and yet we have to be responsible for our health and one of the most important aspects to healthy skin, is a healthy diet.

However, no matter where you live on the planet, one good question you might have asked is, “What does a healthy diet consist of?” This can be tricky as many new diet fads pop up on a weekly basis and some can even be dangerous. The reasons for is that some diets focus on a specific food group or a food to eat. This can create deficiencies and affect the look and feel of your skin.

You must choose carefully what type of diet fits your needs as they are many and have different variations. For example, you can diet to detox your body or chose a diet to be healthier, you can diet because you want to handle a specific ailment.

As you can see there are many choices to pick from and therefore a very smart thing to do would be to define the word diet itself. According to the dictionary, it could mean: a particular selection of food, especially as designed or prescribed to improve a person’s physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease: a diet low in sugar.

Or another definition of diet can be: such a selection or a limitation on the amount a person eats for reducing weight: No pie for me, I’m on a diet.

In my opinion these two definitions are not interchangeable and knowing the reasons and goals behind what you eat can lead you to making smart choices about the foods you eat.

I prefer to use the first definition as in my personal experience this will prevent gaining weight unnecessarily or prevent a condition where I might get sick. And this also helps at once with the health of my skin.

The skin is the first organ to show signs of poor nutrition like, pale dry skin, lacking luster and suppleness. The reason is because it is the last organ to receive nutrients from the body. In the body’s hierarchy, this means that the skin is not a “vital” organ, however, we know that this is not the case.

You can, by eating a wide variety of foods that include different proteins, vegetables and fruits, improve your overall health and the health of your skin. Doing this can lead to younger, supple and more radiant looking skin.

You should also consider adding supplements to your diet as not all foods contain the needed nutrients and depending on your lifestyle you might need more. However, you should consult a nutritional expert as this person can help you tweak your diet so it really benefits you and your skin.
