The Proof That LED Light Therapy Rejuvenates The Skin
I can across this study on LED light therapy that was conducted in 2005 by the Journal of Cosmetic Laser Therapy. A total of 31 subjects received eight treatments of infrared LED light therapy and after the treatments were done, 52 percent of the subjects had significant improvement of their facial appearance as measured by a technique called photoaging scoring.
In addition, 82 percent of the patients reported that they had a marked reduction in facial wrinkles, especially around the eyes. This fueled my believe that LED light therapy can be successfully used in spa treatments for the rejuvenation of the skin.
The findings, of course as I would continue to discover, were just another assertion of the validity of infrared LED light therapy and its effectiveness in the treatments of wrinkles and other skin care issues.
The Difference Between Red And Infrared Light Therapy
Red light helps stimulate healing, which can treat acne scars, rosacea, age spots and blemishes. In the many NASA experiments conducted throughout the 2000s, it was found that red light stimulated energy production within cells, effectively providing enough fuel to boost tissue regeneration and accelerate the healing process.
Infrared therapy is used to treat wrinkles and other problems caused by poor skin support. Infrared stimulates the activity of fibroblasts, which are responsible for making the proteins collagen and elastin.
Collagen and elastin are responsible for supporting the skin and giving it it’s elasticity. Replenishing the collagen and elastin helps smooth wrinkles.
Why Light Therapy Works
When Red or Infrared light is shone upon the skin, it prompts it to heal or form collagen and elastin proteins.
This process is similar to the way photosynthesis works in plants. And although the body itself cannot perform photosynthesis, it can convert light energy into cellular energy.
A perfect example of the human body using light rays for various purposes can be found the in the synthesis of vitamin D.
Don’t Be Fooled By Counterfeit Light Therapy
This in itself could be a very lengthy explanation but I will make it as brief as possible. Only LEDs (light-emitting diodes) have the ability to duplicate the exact wavelengths and have sufficient power to penetrate the skin.
The ability of LEDs to produce colored light gives it its advantage.
To get colored light from incandescent or fluorescent lamps, you need to use filters. Filtering, by definition, means some of the light won’t be used, which means the energy to produce it has been wasted.
