The good news about oily skin is that it keeps the skin looking younger. Over time, people with oily skin tend to wrinkle less than people with dry or normal skin. The bad news is that too much of a good thing can cause breakouts.

Dry skinis also a problem but for different reasons. This skin type is prone to aging, is usually too tight and can be also identified by fine pores.

Dry skin suffers from a lack of natural moisture – there’s little oil to act as a surface barrier and lock in moisture.

DIY Skin Care: Magic for Dry to Oily Skin

Just in time for spring: a fresh glow you can’t buy in any bottle or tube! That’s right. It’s time for some DIY facial skin recipes from skin care pro Joanna Vargas, who gives stars like Charlize Theron and Michelle Williams that flawless, red carpet look.

Joanna makes it clear that you have to decide if you’re oily or dry before starting your skincare routine this summer. Figure out which facial is right for you. We love that you can create these on the cheap at home! And the leftovers definitely won’t hurt your diet.

OILY SKIN:

Take 1/4 cup masked strawberries

2 Tbsp yogurt (plain)

1 Tbsp rice powder

Combine and slather on your face. Let rest 15 minutes and then rinse.

Why it works: “For people with oily skin, achieving a balance of exfoliation and oil control is difficult,” Joanna says. “This recipe puts the skin back into balance immediately. The yogurt is soothing because it’s a natural anti-inflammatory.”

She adds that it will calm breakouts and the lactic acid in the yogurt removes oil in a gentle way while resurfacing the skin. Why a strawberry? This mask is for pore refinement and makes your pores less noticeable. And rice powder helps deal with blackheads because with a little scrub action, you will clean them out.

DRY SKIN:

2 Tbsp honey

2 Tbsp avocado

2 Tbsp olive oil

1 mashed mango

Combine slather on face for 15 minutes and then rinse.
