How to Prevent Dry Skin After Showering
Now that the weather is turning colder, skin definitely has a tendency to dry out much quicker. There are some easy ways to prevent your body from becoming overly dry or dehydrated.
First of all, try not to take exceedingly long showers. The difference between temperatures—going from extremely cold to extremely hot—is actually quite terrible for your skin. Try to keep your shower short and, if possible, warm but not scalding, as hot water tends to strip your skin of its natural oils.
Try to keep your showers to a minimum as well, only bathing once per day if you can help it. The more time you spend in hot water, the worse your skin will look and feel. When you get out of the shower, be sure to pat dry instead of rubbing, as the oils and moisture in your skin will keep better with the former.
It’s also important to apply moisturizer as soon as you get out of the shower, while your skin is still damp. The moisturizer will penetrate deeper into the skin this way. Look for a thick, rich moisturizer with shea butter to provide extra nourishment and hydration.
At the end of the day, I know it sounds amazing to just hop into a super-hot shower and let your mind go blank. But trust me, your skin will thank you so much more if you follow these steps!
