In a study in Japan, where cigarette consumption per capita is among the highest in the world and the incidence of lung cancer is among the lowest, researchers evaluated the effects of eating raw vegetables, green vegetables (especially lettuce and cabbage) and fruits in 282 smokers. They found that the relative risk of lung cancer was markedly decreased in those who ate fruits and raw vegetables daily.
Smoking, alcohol consumption and of course, sun exposure rob the skin of it’s natural glow. To keep your skin looking healthy, I first recommend preventative measures. Green tea and many fruits and vegetables can be consumed as healthy snacks but also for their many antioxidants that repair and prevent cell damage. Antioxidants have of course been linked to preventing illnesses and aging and in fact rejuvenate the skin.
If all else fails, minimize your alcohol intake – drinking too much can dehydrate the skin. Smoking is perhaps even more damaging to the skin. It increase the aging process ten fold, it dries the skin and clogs your pores with tar.
Eliminating smoking is of course best for your health and your skin. Also, avoid processed or chemically engineered foods, which are high in salt and preservatives. They also lack nutritional value and therefore affect your skin negatively, mostly because they lack sufficient vitamins and minerals to provide your body the building blocks it needs.
And most importantly use a sunscreen everyday, regardless of the season, even in winter.
Also, adding a healthy diet can improve your skin dramatically. This would include greens, fruits and plenty of protein to provide the building blocks that your skin needs.
