Flawless Winter Skin
Winter is the season when you will see the most change in your skin and as you go from indoor to outside temperatures, your skin can rapidly become dull and dry.
Here are a few facts as to why this happens and what you can do in order to avoid itchy, dry tight skin during the dead of winter.
With a few changes to your skin care routine you’ll have an incomparable glow during the bleakest winter months so read on and pass it on to your friends and they will love you for it.
When your body gets assaulted by winter weather, the body limits blood flow to its extremities and your face.
As a result your skin does not get enough nutrients and the oxygen it needs and the regenerative cycle of your skin slows down. This is the main reason your skin becomes dull and pale.
One of the biggest contributing factors against the health of your skin during the winter is indoor heating. If you are like most people, you spend longer hours inside and your skin is perhaps more affected by this than by being outside.
Indoor heat evaporates any humidity in the air and any natural oils from your body causing it to dry even more and therefore making your skin uncomfortably tight.
The shifting of environments, from dry cold air outside to bone dry heat inside, demands that the skin adjust rapidly and of course it can’t, causing lost of hydration, irritation, widened capillaries and redness.
A Few Things You’ll Need To Do In Order To Keep Your Winter Youthful Glow:
Using a mild cleanser, like a light foaming cleanser or milk cleanser, will protect the skin’s top layer from losing its natural oils and won’t over dry your skin. Therefore avoid cleansers that are drying and or have alcohol in them.
If you are using refining products and peels you need to minimize them based on how your skin is reacting to them as they can strip your skin of their natural oils.
You might have to ask you skin care professional as to an alternative or what to combine them with in order to offset any drying effects.
You need to moisturize day and night, religiously, as this will not only save your face but protect it from the harsh environment outside and but also prevent it from drying while you are inside.
Also, use a body balm after your shower or bath and this will help keep your body’s skin supple and moisturized during the winter months.
The constant dry heat will suck all the moisture from the environment and you need to add a humidifier in order to keep some moisture in the air. This will help keep the skin from overly drying, specially at nighttime, and this will prevent itchy dry skin.
As the winter continues and the temperatures continues to drop, I will give you more skin care tips on how to maintain a workable winter skin care routine or expand on the ones already mentioned in future newsletters.
