Achieving that bright, healthy glow we see on red carpets and in magazines always seems tough – but it’s even more difficult during the winter months! After battling cold temperatures and windy weather, in addition to long work hours and little to no sleep, our skin is in desperate need of some TLC.
Last year, Joanna spoke to skincare blog TheNewPotato
about the best homemade face masks to beautify our winter routines. Not only are they useful, but they’re also fun to create! Use these masks as a bonding experience amongst your friends and family – they’re good for your skin and a great way to spend the day indoors (and out of the cold)!
Yogurt Face Scrub
The yogurt in this scrub is a great anti-inflammatory and its lactic acid will serve as a peel. To learn about Joanna's professional Power Peel treatment, click HERE
. The cornmeal, of course, is the physical exfoliant – Joanna recommends using an exfoliant that contains both a physical and a “chemical” component. The grapefruit juice contains salicylic acid and is very cleansing. This scrub smells wonderful and is like having a mini facial right at home!
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- ½ cup corn meal
- ¼ cup grapefruit juice
Cool in the fridge to thicken. Scrub on the face for two minutes, then rinse.
Detoxifying Super Green Mask
The yogurt in this mask aides in soothing and exfoliating the skin, while the avocado adds hydration and a healthy helping of Vitamin B. Oat grass and/or wheat grass detoxify the skin, stimulating lymphatic drainage and feeding the skin important nutrients.
- ¼ cup plain yogurt
- ½ avocado
- 2 tbsp. oat grass juice or wheat grass juice
Smash avocado, then combine all ingredients to form a paste. Let sit on the face for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off.
Honey is great because it’s hydrating without being comedogenic – aka, you don’t have to worry about risking a breakout. Avocado is amazing because it’s loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin B, which are both incredible for your lymphatic system and restoring the skins lipid layer. Mango is loaded with Vitamin C
which brightens the skin, and olive oil is a skin softener and an anti-inflammatory.
- 2 tbsp. honey
- 2 tbsp. avocado
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 mango (mashed)
Combine ingredients then apply to face. Let sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off.
