Foods For Good Skin: Whole Grains
While some carbs are nothing more than empty calories, some are healthy and your body still needs them to function properly. Here is what you should look for when choosing them. Are The Whole Grains You're Eating The Best Choice For Good Skin? The healthy carbs you want come from whole grains as they provide essential vitamins, minerals, nutrients, antioxidants and fiber, all of which are crucial to achieve healthy skin and a healthy digestive system. And if you were asked which are the healthiest, most of us would answer brown or wheat. This is true of course but there are a slew of other grains that are just as healthy, if not better. What's Good About Whole Grains? Whole grains are not digested nearly as quickly as processed ones, they are slower to digest, as there are more elements in it, including fiber. One of the benefits of fiber is that it helps to creates a healthy digestive system, keeping food moving and helping to absorb toxins that would otherwise stay in your system. Toxins that stagnate in your digestive track have a way of showing up in your skin. Your skin being another filter that your body uses to get rid of these poisons. This could be the reason people breakout or have dull looking skin. Adding fiber to your diet then could be part of the clear skin diet. What's Bad About Whole Grains? According to celebrity nutritional expert, Lisa De Fazio, not all brown carbs or wheat based carbs are good for you. Unfortunately, wheat bread can still be made from processed wheat that's stripped of it's nutrients. Knowing how to read your ingredients list in your labels can help you make the right choice. For example, ingredients like "wheat flour" and "enriched wheat flour" are no different than white flour. Furthermore, wheat flour and unbleached wheat flour are NOT technically whole grains.
