8 Top Reasons For Acne

We’ve all had those mornings where we drag ourselves out bed and head to the bathroom to start our daily skin care rituals only to site the dreaded Zit in the mirror. So we make the mental list and reconstruct the days in our memory trying to figure out what caused this whopping flaring zit to appear. How on earth did that pimple happen? Even those with infinitely clear skin have experienced this moment. So many factors usher in the bumpy terrain of acne. But a few easy tips to remember can reduce the appearance of dreaded outbreaks.

1.Vitamin Deficiency

A simple lack of zinc in your diet may be responsible for acne outbreaks. Zinc is a mineral known to treat acne both internally and topically. Leafy greens like kale, Swiss chard and bok choy are all good sources of zinc to include in your menu planning for improved skin health. Add a daily zinc supplement to your diet as well to inhibit outbreaks. CONSULT A PHYSICIAN ALWAYS BEFORE STARTING A DIETARY SUPPLEMENT REGIME.

2. Touching Skin

We prop our heads on hands so often, this is a hard habit to break. No matter how clear skin may be, usually pawing your tender face will inevitably lead to a pimple performance. We touch so many things daily with our hands that already produce enough oils on their own. When they come in contact with our face the finger tips will transfer all their oil and dirt directly to your skin. It is wise to limit touching, scratching and picking at your face to reduce the chances of dirt, bacteria and additional oils finding their way there. Easier said than done, I know.

3. Hygiene

Remember to keep your skin clean. Washing your skin twice daily using a gentle cleanser is sufficient to protect your skin against the acne onslaught. This step is so overlooked that just doing it daily will improve your skin dramatically. AND PLEASE DON’T USE REGULAR SOAP. Find a face wash that is suitable for your skin type.

4. Unclean Hair

Striking a balance between the health of our hair and skin is essential for preventing pimples. Oftentimes washing our hair slows down the onset of acne. Remember not to overdo it so your body is not deprived of essential oils, while keeping in mind that oily dirty hair is a sure-fired way to bring about whiteheads and blackheads.

5. Stress

When we stress we trigger glands that produce sebum (oil) to get to work. That sebum will coat the skin blocking pores in the process. When your skin breathes because of blockage acne is sure to follow. Try exercise to reduce stress and promote sweating to unclog pores and release toxins that will lead to clear skin.

6. Over Cleansing Skin

Going overboard with washing your skin leads your skin to overcompensate by creating more oils to replenish what’s been lost. When your oil production goes into overdrive our pores are overwhelmed. The same is true with exfoliating too often. Exfoliate twice weekly for the best results and to chase away the unwelcome acne.

7. Hormonal Changes

Out of our control of course, but it’s good to understand that all those outbreaks are not your fault. Shifts in hormones happen into and through our adult lives. When women are pregnant, for example, hormones go haywire and the inevitable zit will appear during that vital shift. Keep yourself hydrated, calm with a selection of whole organic foods that will enhance your skin’s health to counter the physical toll hormone shifts can have on your skin.

8. Skin and Hair Care Products

You’d be surprised how often our body chemistry rejects commercial hair care and skin care products. When we add new chemical laden products to our routine our skin may signal: what the #@*&? Skin that is otherwise normal may become sensitive and “break out” in an acne frenzy when exposed to too many harsh chemicals. Since your hair does have close contact with your face, choose organic products with as few chemical additives and preservatives as possible to maintain healthy hair and skin.
